- Rainy Days and MondaysAlexandra Hill
In the 2002 movie “About A Boy”, the classic song "Rainy Days and Mondays" by The Carpenters plays a significant part. In the film, main character Will Freeman uses the song to try to cheer up his neighbor Marcus – who is struggling with sadness after being abandoned by his mother. The lyrics of the song talk about feeling down about the world and about life, about feeling that "nothing's ever gonna turn out right". This fits perfectly with Marcus' mood at the time, and the song manages to inspire him to start believing in himself again. Ultimately, the song is a reminder of how important it is for someone who is struggling with their emotions to have people around them who care about them and provide support. It is a powerful moment in the movie that really drives home its theme of hope, friendship, and resilience. In addition to being an important part of “About A Boy”, "Rainy Days and Mondays" has inspired countless other films and songs throughout the years.
