Ellian finds that her parents have been turned into monsters.

Ellian is told by the ministers Bolivar and Nazara of how her parents became monsters which they can’t have around whilst in such a state, and must seek the oracles to change them back, all whilst she has her 15th birthday coming up where she is to become queen.

The oracles Sunny and Luno attempt to explain to Ellian how to end the curse, only to be eaten by her monster mother, only to spit the oracles out shortly afterwards, who are now so frightened that they runaway, thus leaving Ellian without an explanation.

Ellian walks around the destroyed palace halls after her failed 15th birthday party, reminiscing about how her life was like before her parents got turned into monsters.

After escaping into the forest with her monster parents and Bolivar, now having been turned into Ellian’s pet Flink, she is able to find the oracles again, who instruct her to fellow the lights, which will lead her to the pond of light.

Now able to speak again, Ellian’s monster parents start to gain memories of their past with their daughter, and prompt her to become more hopeful with saving them.

Bolivar in Flink form after encountering a group of Flinks is prompted by them into eating a worm, which he does so and becomes delighted.

Ellian’s parents realise they were turned into parents because of their constant fighting, and decide they should probably separate once turned back into humans. Ellian upon thinking her parents don’t love her and never think of anyone but themselves becomes enraged by this, which summons the darkness and begins to become a monster herself.

Upon seeing Ellian consumed by the darkness, her parents rush to save her, and come to understand that they had not always been very attentive to her due to being too much focused on themselves. Upon rescuing Ellian from facing the same fate, her parents then turn back into humans.

Ellian reveals that her life has changed for the better ever since saving her parents.
